About
Hi! I'm Brayden, an artist currently based in Newfoundland. I work with visual media alongside my musical practice under the name of bp iv. I was born in Northwestern Ontario but moved to Bonavista Bay in Newfoundland at a young age.
In my art, I explore human sentiment's place in online and post-online spaces, or settings otherwise untethered from physicality, as well as the information lost from an image between each translation in its creation or communication, in both form and context. I am generally interested in the role that "fine" artworks created in a contemporary setting may take in relation to the viewer who is already bombarded with images, and the tension between the personal history of my images and the history of fine art.
Art for me has always been a means of (re-)constructing myself - I found myself in images from a young age and continue to do so. Drawing specifically is an extremely personal part of my practice which I have developed in tandem with my growing up online. As of 2024, I am exploring collage, drawing and painting, and the places they intersect as a means of producing visual effects to convey the specific experience of physical isolation, non-physical comfort/community and various issues of identity and shame.
I am also interested in genealogy and do it as a hobby - archival work is a large interest of mine although it isn't my primary practice.
